Women's rights groups began to form in Wisconsin in the late 1860's. From their beginnings fighting for temperance, suffrage, and public school reform, later Wisconsin suffragists looked to promote Wisconsin women in government positions. Helped along by Belle and Bob La Follette, Wisconsin became the first state to ratify the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote on June 10th, 1919.
